How do I prepare for class?
Please come in WELL HYDRATED! Remember, coffee dehydrates you!! Even if you're sipping water during class you can't catch up if you come in dehydrated. Putting lemon or cucumber in your water will help keep you well hydrated and cool. We also sell Emergen-C for only $0.50 if you'd like to drink that before or after class. Eat well! Choose whole foods the day of your practice. Try to avoid heavy or fried foods. Also, try not to eat 2-3 hours before class. If you need to eat something, eat something small like a piece of fruit or a handful of nuts. The more you practice, the more you'll know what your body responds the best to, which is the beauty of yoga! The practice will show your body what it needs to perform at an optimum level!
I can't figure out how to register online. Is it okay if I just show up?
YES!! Registering for classes online is not a requirement. And it doesn't guarantee you a spot in the room. Come in about 20 minutes before your first class and fill out the waiver, put your mat down and practice yoga. We keep it simple, ya'll.
DO I NEED TO BRING A MAT?
If you own a mat, bring it. If you don't own one, and don't want to make that purchase yet, just rent one of ours for $2. We sell water for $1 and rent towels for $1 too.
WHAT DO I WEAR?
Clothes you can practice yoga and sweat in. You don't want loose short shorts, and you may not want long pants. Tight fitting, sweat controlling, temperature cooling (no cotton). Board shorts for guys work well, too.
Less is best, but we aren't a "clothing optional" studio. Yet.
DO YOU OFFER COOL CLASSES?
Our Flow classes are about 92 degrees. We're not trying to kill you. we just love the way we feel after a good yoga class ~ and that includes sweating. Core 26 is the hottest, but the postures are stagnate, so you use the heat the warm your muscles.
IS YOUR INTRO SPECIAL ON GOING?
Yes. Always. Anyone new can come try out what we do. You're buying a block of 10 days for $20. Come as often as you want in those 10 days.
What if I'm late?
We tend to start classes very close to "on time." So if the door is locked when you arrive, try again! We aren't trying to make it difficult for you, we just have to stay on schedule for everyone who did show up on time.
Why the heat?
Radiant Heat Panels are installed in our studio to maximize your body's ability to go back to optimum health, to its most natural state~ where dehydration, fat cells, stress and disease cannot thrive. Each class will be heated to varying degrees. The Core 26 is the hottest at 100-105 degrees. The Hatha and Vinyasa classes are set between 85-95 degrees depending on the teacher or the particular flow.
Reasons for the heat are to increase the ability to burn fat and increase metabolism, detox physically and emotionally and the heat allows you to deeply and safely get into poses.
The heat increases the heart rate which creates increased cardiovascular activity and allows you to burn calories more quickly. The sweat from a hot and humid room promotes detoxification and elimination through the skin. This oxygenates tissues, muscles, glands and organs to help remove waste products. The heat also allows for greater focus and mental discipline. The postures are the physical side of yoga but with the added element of the heat your mind demands more control over the body and the inner dialogue. A heated yoga room also brings a greater range of motion to your body. The warmer the muscles the less chance of injury and the deeper you’ll feel the pose.
Why the wall of mirrors?
Practicing yoga is a form of meditation. The mirrors are simply a tool for you to go deeper into the posture and to check alignment. Let go of self-judgment and enjoy yourself! Don’t compare yourself to anyone else in the room. Yoga is NOT a competition!
We can’t wait to meet you!
